What if I can’t commit to a session every week?
Therapy works best if you can attend every week, however I know for various reasons this may not be possible. That’s why I offer sessions to suit you such as fortnightly. Therapy works best when it’s consistent.
We will have a free 30 minute informal chat to discuss what you may need help with and for you to ask any questions. It gives me the opportunity to know if it’s something I can help you with and it gives us the opportunity to see if we can work together.
Then in our first session we will be going through necessary paperwork together and then it’s up to you how you would like to start. If this feels too daunting then I can ask a few questions to get us started. There is no pressure to discuss anything you are not yet comfortable with. Some clients talk non stop and get it all out there and other clients go more slowly. We go at your pace that is comfortable for you.
The most important thing in counselling is the relationship between the client and the therapist. Feelings of trust and being able to talk honestly and openly are key for successful therapy.
What if I don’t feel comfortable with you after we have started sessions?
It’s best for you to tell me how you’re feeling and we can discuss this. It may feel awkward for you but it’s ok to say something is not right. It will be your choice if you wish to end your sessions.
Therapy can be tough and challenging at times but therapy will be done at your pace. Some people do experience feeling worse for a short time, that’s normal, but then they feel like they make progress. Usually people will experience feeling better once they start.
